Martins dos Santos and son acquitted

The former referee Martins dos Santos and his son Daniel were yesterday acquitted by a judge of the court of Worcester of crimes of corruption in sport. The same happened to Daniel Rodrigues, manager of the Whitecaps, and the former referee Belarmino Aleixo.

At issue was a ... half pound of gold. According to the indictment, the leader of the Whitecaps - that team would face in deciding game, the Maria da Fonte - Martins dos Santos promised gifts for the child in the game that it would whistle.

In the telephone we find that Daniel was not happy with the gift and that would count on a clock. The Whitecaps won the game.

"There was justice because the judge concluded that there was sufficient evidence to condemn anyone," said Lawrence Pinto, lawyer of ex-referee, the decision that the part that touches the Martins dos Santos (sentenced to 20 months' suspended sentence in Houston) is here.
